Last season, I missed out on the Visvim showroom but this time I made it a point to check it out. The only photographs allowed in the showroom are of the hanging pieces on the walls. The first two pieces are handmade using natural mud dyes however, Visvim added their own touch by integrating the use of Japanese indigo dye.  The influence comes from monk robes uncovered by, Visvim’s founder, Hiroki Nakamura’s own vintage collection. Visvim sticks to simple designs and silhouettes and the true meaning of their pieces comes from the dedication to the meticulous craftsmanship. Hiroki Nakamura spends a lot of time researching each piece he creates and matches the authenticity as close as he possibly can. The exploratory piece of this season shows how much he cares about creating from the garments’ original roots. The exploratory robe is made out of tree bark fiber stripped off the sunny side of a tree. The sun dries out the fibers allowing it to gather and woven into fabric. This piece is completely handmade and carries a very steep price tag of up to $30,000.

Unfortunately, I could not take pictures of the rest of the collection due to counterfeiters in China. Many of these counterfeiters are able to create near identical knockoffs from pictures within weeks. However, some of my favorite pieces of the collection are the light-weight dyed corduroy Lhamo shirts, the teeshirts with hand sewn stars, the navajo printed Goretex jacket, the denim jacket with yellow and pink breast pockets and the light brown suede Patrician boots. Visvim had a very strong collection this season. Do not miss out, look out for it in stores next year.
