Milan Fashion Week – Boglioli Spring/Summer 2013
Boglioli always chooses amazing locations to present their collections. Last season, they presented in the historical Biblioteca Braidense and this season they chose a refurbished warehouse on the outskirts of Milan. Upon entering the venue you see Mario Bogiloli serving eggs and Luciano Barbera making cocktails for guests. The food was impeccable; the salmon tartar, salami and pate were all absolutely delicious. The one food item that stood out the most was a mozzarella made right on the premisses. The cheesemaker even made a mozzarella elephant.
This season’s collection was one of my favorites. The fabrics were all lightwieght and perfect for the summer. The standard cotton jackets were mixed in with bold patterns and colors. Some of my favorites included the blue windowpane double breasted jacket, the navy reversible nylon blazer and the red double breasted hopsack jacket. If you are not familiar with Boglioli, they make all of their pieces unstructured; there is no canvasing or shoulder pads. This creates a very relaxed silhouette and is great for the summer. They used this silhouette to create a piece which I have never seen before, a midnight blue notched lapel dinner jacket. I am really looking forward seeing this collection in stores next year.

Dolce & Gabbana Milano Headquarters Visit
After walking into the doors of the Dolce & Gabbana, you are greeted with a pair of ornate chairs. Through the minimal black lobby and up one level, you arrive to the showroom where they showcase the current collection to the buyers. This season, Dolce and Gabbana casted a special selection of models to walk the Spring/Summer collection. The typical models were joined by everyday Sicilians which even included some young children. My favorite pieces of the collection were the printed shirts. They came in a variety of colors and some of the more elaborate designs included scriptures and fine art paintings. Many of the tailored looks were relaxed and roomy due to the heavy pleating.
After viewing the latest collection we took a short trip to the other building which is dubbed as the white building. This part of the Dolce and Gabbana headquarters houses the previous season’s collections of both women’s and men’s. Some interesting pieces from last season included the Dolce & Gabbana bicycle and the heavily hand embroidered dresses. The dresses were completely hand-made in Sicily and are comparable to haute couture. The showrooms are quite immaculate and the white interior compliments the pieces of clothing. There are no distractions and your attention is purely focused on the garments.

Pitti Uomo 82 – Hancock Spring/Summer 2013
Hancock, a label out of Scotland set the bar for innovative outerwear this season. Using Macintosh fabric, Hancock retained a very classic silhouette but was able to incorporate great details, colors and fabrics into their Spring/Summer collection. My favorite piece was the light pink top coat. The coat was very traditional and had all the details of a very classic topcoat, a ticket pocket, a undercollar and even a breast pocket. The coat itself is taped for waterproofing and the mackintosh makes this coat a very functional 21st century piece of clothing. It is rare to see such a timeless piece reinterpreted with technical fabrics. Another very interesting item was the Globetrotter backpack collaboration. The two worked on a hardcase backpack with Macintosh lining. You should be seeing Hancock in a range of New York stores next year. Be sure to check it out.
